Ride Safety Guide
Kings Dominion is committed to providing a safe, comfortable and fun-filled experience for all of our guests. Please be respectful of others and abide by all park rules and regulations, which are posted throughout the park and available at Guest Services. Failure to abide by all park rules could result in ejection from the park without refund and /or arrest/ legal prosecution as dictated by law. Please help us maintain a quality, family environment for all of our guests by not using profanity, wearing appropriate attire while you are in the park, and smoking only in designated areas. If you have a safety concern, please bring it to our attention immediately. We also expect that you will not engage in any illegal, unsafe or offensive behavior while you’re here. Please talk with any park employee or stop by Guest Services if there is anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable.

- Many rides at Kings Dominion are dynamic and thrilling. There are inherent risks in riding any amusement ride. For your protection, each ride is rated for its special features, such as high speed, steep drops, sharp turns or other dynamic forces. If you choose to ride, you accept all of these risks. Restrictions for guests of extreme size (height or weight) are posted at certain rides. Guests with disabilities should stop by Guest Services to pick up our 2008 Rider Safety Guide. Participate responsibly. You should be in good health to ride safely. You know your physical conditions and limitations, Kings Dominion does not. If you suspect your health could be at risk for any reason, or you could aggravate a pre-existing condition of any kind, DO NOT RIDE!
- Guests with a history of recent surgery, heart trouble/high blood pressure, neck trouble, back trouble or any other condition that may be aggravated by riding, or who are pregnant, should carefully heed all warning signs at each ride entrance. If you are in doubt about your ability to safely experience a ride or would like more rider information, please request our 2008 Rider Safety Guide at Guest Services. We’ll be happy to brief you on our Ride Admission policy and explain how it applies to your specific situation. We hope we can help you enjoy your day more fully.
- All passenger restraint systems, including lap bars, shoulder harnesses and seatbelts, must be positioned and fastened properly, and tightened securely, to allow guests to ride. Please try our test seats at the ride entrances of Drop Tower, The Crypt and Shockwave prior to waiting in line.
- Most rides cannot accommodate loose articles including cell phones, pagers, hats, cameras, stuffed animals, purses, backpacks, umbrellas, beverage containers, personal entertainment devices, etc. Items must be safely secured in cargo pockets, a waist pack, left in a locker, placed in an article bin at the ride location, or left with a non-rider. Ride operators are not responsible for these items. Glasses must be secured on all rides. For safety reasons, taking pictures, videotaping and filming on rides are prohibited.
- Supervise children at all times. A guest’s height is an important safety factor on many rides and attractions. Children may be measured and receive a wristband, if qualified, at the Height Measuring Stations located on International Street and at most major attractions. For the safety of your child, a standard play shoe which does not contribute excessively to the child’s height is required. For example, a child is not permitted to wear platform shoes to help meet a height requirement. Kings Dominion reserves the right to ask that shoes be removed to ensure that a child’s height is not being artificially enhanced or manipulated.
- A responsible person can only chaperone one child.
- Rider Responsibility: It’s the Law. State law requires riders to obey all warnings and directions and behave in a manner that will not cause or contribute to injuring themselves or others. Riders shall report all injuries before leaving.
HEIGHT & WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The primary consideration on our coasters is that the restraint system has to properly lock and be secure in order for someone to ride. All passenger restraint systems, including lap bars, shoulder harnesses, and seatbelts must be positioned and fastened properly to allow a guest to ride.
Due to rider restraint requirements, guests of exceptional size may not be accommodated on some of our rides. This may apply, but not be limited to guests who exceed 76” in height, those who exceed 250 pounds, have a 46” waistline, or 54” chest. There are some rides with weight restrictions - Zoom Flume (approximately 250 lbs), Tornado (approximately 175 lbs), Pipeline Peak (300 lbs), and Surf City Splash House slides (300 lbs). Larger guests may experience difficulty on Anaconda, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Crypt, Dominator, Drop Tower, Flight of Fear, Grizzly, Hurler, Nickelodeon Space Surfer, Rebel Yell, Ricochet, Scooby-Doo’s Ghoster Coaster, Shockwave, Taxi Jam, and Volcano.
At some rides (Drop Tower, Crypt, & Dominator) we have a test seat out front where you can see if the restraint will buckle and know whether you can ride or not. At other rides, you can walk up the exit and have the operators allow you to test a seat to ensure that the restraints can function properly before deciding to wait in line.
If you are in doubt about your ability to safely experience a ride or would like more rider information, please request our 2008 Rider Safety Guide at Guest Services. A representative from Rides will be happy to brief you on our Ride Admission policy here at the Park and explain how it applies to your specific situation. We hope we can help you enjoy your day more fully.
